Default Aisin lockouts. fit the 60 or 40 or both?

OK...so I walked to a yard sale this weekend and there were random tools and car parts. I picked up a set of Aisin hubs that look like what's on my 60. (ya' know, the gold-ish looking dial). I got them for spares (he wanted $20 for the set ;-) )

Questions:
Would they fit both the 60 and the 40 ('77)?
Do my 40 and 60 have the same spline count? (I think that's the right term).
How can I tell which ones they are?

Good deal Shawn! They will only fit on your 60. I think the spline count is the same, but the birf on your 40 (unless it's been updated with a '79+setup) is about 1/8" too long for the Aisin hub. If your hub on your 40 is a Warn the Aisin for sure will not work. Good score though!

Just a mini truck guy, but didn't the FJ40 get fine spline axles in 1978?

yes the 40 and 60 have the same spline count. The only issue would be if your spares you just bought are ifs hubs (those have a different spline count). The other issue is you have the long birfield on the '77 vs the short on the fj60 so you won't be able to bolt them right up.

The 10/75 to 78 have the long.. the 79+ 40's have the short. You can do some work to get them to fit the 77. mud should have all the details if you search.

The IFS axles have 27 splines, since they are 7.5" axles technically (the 7.5" axle, like the rear of a 2WD would also have 27 spline axles). Also never have seen gold faces on Toyota's IFS Aisins (not that they couldn't be, just usually red). If they came from a solid axle mini they would have 30 splines, just like the Cruiser.

yep mini's are 30 spline. The ifs hubs are good for all parts except the spline collar and are essentially the same. Same with zuki aisins.

I like the 60 ones the best since they have the turn dial a little raised. I've seen a few early mini ones this way but not many.

Which, if someone didn't know, Longfield makes replacement so that you can adapt an IFS hub to a solid axle. Probably most people know that because the prices for used IFS hubs has been going up. Used to be people would give them to you when they did SAS, but now they want actual money for them. Like $50 a pair. Crazy.

Great score! Like has been stated.....there are two different Aisin hubs, those for IFS and the ones for everything else.
