Default 80 exhaust ?

why couldn't the 80 headers be collected a bit higher up, than a single exhaust with a heat shield be run down through here, instead of going outside the frame rail, then underneath it to return back inside again?

That would put the cats too close to the tranny.

I need to do something, my exhaust is absolutely mangled where it runs back under the frame. My muffler is mangled. I need a high clearance, low cost, not loud(er) solution

The outside of the frame rail is as close as between the rail and tranny?
