Default New Radio

So im doing some research on radios for my vehicles while im waiting for my call sign to show up in the database...

Im thinking about getting a Yaesu 8800 for my daily driver. But im wondering what would be a good radio to go in the FJ40 that will never have a top on it...maybe something marine?

i like the idea of the ftm10r, but after reading the reviews, i think it might be real confusing for anyone but an expert. most everyone says it's hard to program and buttons aren't labeled well. also, some have had issues with the bluetooth

from what i'm reading it doesn't look like the mic is included, that you have to purchase it seperately? am i getting that wrong?

I don't know I just saw that it was waterproof. Aren't they all confusing until you use them for a while?

That FTM-10R looks neat, mainly because it's waterproof though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks a lot less capable than the FT-8800. The dual band mode is useless, IMO.. listen to FM radio on one band and 2m on the other? You can already do that, using a 1800 or 2800 and the radio that came with your truck...

I think the first recommendation is perfect- 8800 for the DD, and 2800 for the 40.

I did look up the FTM-10R, It does look really nice, mainly because it is waterproof. I tend to get mud in places that shouldn't attract mud so I think I have definatly decided that it needs to be waterproof.

I do second nakman in saying that it seems less functional than the 8800 and some of the bells and whistles are pointless (monitoring fm radio and 2m).

I am leaning towards the 8800 for the daily driver though, I like the reviews and the bells and whistles of that rig. Have been trying to come up with a way to put a 2800 or the like in some type of water "resistant" enclosure to try and avert some danger. If that ends up happening ill post up on what I came up with.

Got my call sign today so im gonna try and jump on this and get something to play with...KD0GHM
