Default Gasket for the crank pulley nut

As I was cleaning up the dual pulley from the junk yard I noticed a gasket that goes around the shaft of the crank pulley nut. I noticed it because it was it fell out of the cylinder in the crank pulley on the outboard side. It is in no shape to be reused. I called Toyota and the part is discontinued and not on the shelf anywhere. When I go to put the dual pulley on my crank shaft, should I use RTV?

BTW - what is the difference between a gasket and a seal?

a gasket is normally between 2 stationary surfaces whereas a seal is usually between 1 stationary surface and 1 moving surface.

Ricardo, from your written description it kind of sounds like what you are describing is a sleeve, like a speedy sleeve that is used on things like this to provide a smooth surface for the seal when the underlying cylinder has been grooved from wear. A speedy sleeve on a crank pulley would go on the outside of the part of the crank pulley that goes into the timing gear cover seal.

The crank pulley nut (AKA "the big ol' nut") has a locking washer that goes between the nut and the pulley, but it doesn't sound like that's what you are referring to.

Default Pictures may help...

This is not on harmonic balancer side of the pulley, it is on the pulley side of the pulley. Here is a picture of the gasket and the crank pulley.


The harmonic balancer and pulley go on the shaft, next the gasket goes into the center hole of the crank pulley and finally the big ole nut goes on the threads. Here is a picture of the gasket and the big ole nut.


After seeing the pictures, what is this gasket? Do I need it? If yes, how do I find it (or an appropriate substitute)?

I have pulled many pulleys off and have never seen that part before. Is it on SOR's diagrams? If you were worried about oil weeping past the 140 or so foot pounds that nut (and the locking tab washer that goes under it), you could always spooge a little RTV on the threads and under the shoulder? Personally, I have never had oil weep past the nut. There's not much pressure there and like I wrote, that nut is honked down REALLY tight.

Thanks Jeff, knowing you have not ever run into this makes it much easier for me to decide what to do. I did not think to check the SOR diagrams. I did research the subject on the net, landcruiser mailing list archives, mud and here without finding any reference to the part. I removed the big ole nut from my truck today and there was no gasket on there. I think I'm going to skip it when I put the two row pulley on.
