Default Holy Cross Sunday, September 10th

Going to set this up and see. If Sunday doesn't work for anyone, then we can make other plans. Wanted to get up before the snow starts (though no guarantees of course. Could snow early).

Plan is to Camp out Saturday Night on the road into the trail. Lots of beautiful camping up in there. Plan to hit the trail early (7:30-8 depart camp unless we find it deserted up there) to beat the yahoos.

I can lead this, but I'll happily defer to anyone bigger/better/more experienced

Run Requirements:

People:
1. Good attitude. Its a beautiful trail but has its challenges. We are going to the city.
2. Lunch, snacks, water, clothes for 70-80 degree weather and sunny, as well as 15 degree weather and snow.
3. Families and pets welcome!

Trucks:
Obviously some leeway but in general:

1. Good working order. If you are having issues getting to the trail, I'll turn you around at the trail head. The trail is narrow in areas and not a lot of fun to tow a truck off of.

2. Good tires
3. Good tow points front and rear.
4. Rear locker
5. Sliders

If you have run the trail before, of course I'm happy to let experienced folks run it their own way. However, if you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend:

1. 33"+ tires
3. Bumpers
4 Front locker or winch

You will be able to run the trail with a single locker and sliders up to French Creek. You will need the rest to get up the creek.

I'm going to cap the run at 10 trucks, as its a long day generally. If we get to 10 and someone is really dying to go, we can see. Just trying to keep it fun and not get people home late.

Good on ya, Isaac, and put me down as a most likely since it's hard to see past this coming weekend at the moment. Holy Cross is a great idea and thanks for setting things up as it has been some time since the club went up there as a group. As for deferring to someone else leading let me say that one of my fondest memories of wheeling Holy Cross was watching you take a most impossible line through the creek crossing's boulders and making it look easy. Some of us were taking the usual line and making a mess of things while you passed us on the right and just smiled.
If you haven't wheeled Holy Cross before know that it's a great run but don't take AxleIke's words of caution lightly. You and your vehicle will get a workout with some body damage possible. Haven't run it in a few years but I doubt the trail has gotten any easier since then. Be prepared!!

In fact!!! Here's a pic of me pointing out Isaac's "weird" line leading into the French Creek crossing. Everyone else was going far left. Not Isaac! Yes. it's rocky and yes, the rocks are that big. Gonna be fun.

Awesome, Isaac! thanks for leading... I am out for this though, will be hungover from the 40's only (only get so many hall passes) but glad to see another run option. Hopefully you get a couple more to get up and play!

and I'm not sure what you were thinking on that pic above... way left looks way easier!

It's deceptive. the middle is the hardest.

But, it changes constantly. Makes it fun!

Man, I've wanted to run this trail forever! Unfortunately I'll be packing into Elk Camp on the 10th.

Also, if there is a better weekend, we can try to figure something else out. I didn't see a lot of options posted in the other thread, so I figured I put up what worked for me. But we can certainly change if more folks are interested.

Lots of folks in the club are well equipped to run this. I've run it 4 times in my old 87 4runner on IFS and 33's, so its not a buggy trail.
