Default Red Elephant Hill 8/9/17

At the meeting last night, new RS Event Coordinator Kevin Erlick, aka Uncle Ben, spoke of the need to get out and wheel more often on runs besides the annual RS events such as BOWAGW and 40s Only. As I haven't run Red Elephant yet this year I'm going up next Wednesday, 8/9. Meeting place will be in Dumont just across the street from the CDOT weigh station where there used to be a Burger King. Meeting time is 9:00am and we'll head up soon after. Red Elephant is mostly a 2 on a 1-5 scale with a couple of spots that take it up to a 3 - some big rocks and some off camber sidehills that can make things interesting. There are some tight, tree-lined, tippy sections so I advise against you bringing your pristine 100 or 200 but it's your call. This trail has plenty of spurs that can make for a full day of exploring or you can make a quick loop of if by circling over to the lower portion of Bill Moore Lake trail and head back down. Another loop, Forest Service Rd. 171.1 that crosses Mill Creek a couple of times can up the fun level to 3-4 is also an option. I plan on having lunch on the trail and am open to exploring some of the optional stuff. HAM 146.460 and CB channel 4 for communications.
