Default 40's Only 2017

Hey friends, it is high time we land on a few things for this years 2017 40's only run.

What: 40's ONLY... any 4X series Land Cruiser is welcome.

When:Sept 9th

Where: Argentine Pass

NEW INFO!

I scouted this trail with a friend yesterday as I have never been on it, what a beautiful trail. We are even seeing Aspens begin to change to their golden glowing fall color. It appears there are two main parallel trails, I took the northern route (which stays above the other trail in elevation), I am not sure if that is the "main" route but I stayed on the main drag, they merge before the mine if my maps were correct. If the lower route is more fun I am open to that.

The wild flowers were popping, so bring a camera.

The trail is mild for sure, not much more than a dirt road for 80% with some loose rocks and a steeper climb towards the top. But man the views are epic.

Lots of smoke up there from Montana and the NW but we could still see a lot of summit county.

If you are worried about shiny paint the trial does narrow in a few spots and pin-stripping isn't out of the question but the vegetation is soft and forgiving. Just a thought if you are concerned with your concourse resto.

It appeared on the map there are two trail heads to the trail system from the Guanella pass rd? I took the first one, not sure where you camping guys will be but that is where I would like to meet up at the first big switch back coming out of Georgetown near the trial head. Is there two entries?

There was a heavy tracked flatbed machine hauling material to the mine, we passed him on the way up and down, not sure if they'll be working on the weekend.

Meet up: 9am in Georgetown, we will meet at the Visitors Center, and air down BEFORE HITTING the trail head. Side note: both gas stations air pumps are down, and not working so bring your own air source or don't air down. There is free air at Sinclair in Idaho Springs but you'll need to drive on I70 before getting there. There's not a great place for us all to air down at the trail head that I saw, so lets plan on leaving the visitors center ready to hit the trail and those that are camping can meet us ready to to roll at the trail head by 9:30 at the latest.

Lunch! I think it might be prudent to bring a sack lunch or plan on eating a little later. It took us about 3 hours to run the trail solo at a slow pace. A dozen 40's and ANY trail passing of other vehicles will slow us down a bit. I'd count on rolling on the trail about 9:30am and it taking roughly 4 hours with stops, pics etc. I'll bring a snack and try to Smokin' Yards BBQ on the way home for a late lunch.

Optional: Folks who want to continue to wheel could run Barbor Fork out of Idaho Springs for a more technical run through some great terrain. I am open to that as well if anyone else has some interest.

Requirements: Good attitude, good working 40 series, and trail communication like a CB or HAM radio. This trail is beautiful, scenic and not difficult. There is one or two spots that will require your attention and or a spotter but any stock 40 will do fine.

Suggestions:Get your 40 out on a good shake down run and see if any gremlins surface. Give the old girl a tune up, a fresh tank of gas, crawl underneath and snug down the bolts to spec! Do all this now, so that you have a little time to fix and tune things before the week of.

My Own 40's Drama: My 40 has been running great this week so I am in!

What's still needed: To land on the details and start to get a head count as to how many rig will likely come. We've been averaging 15-20+ rigs.

What is REALLY needed: Thank you to Nakman and Adam for stepping in and helping gun and mid-gunner this trail.

Dang....I scheduled our block party for that day. If I trusted I-70 I could probably do both, but no way I could count on being back by 4. Bummer

4pm could be doable but not guaranteed. this many 40s tend to move slower than the wagons.
