Default 94 FZJ80 Idle Issue

So my 80 has an idle issue. It starts up fine and it will get to operating temp fine. Once I get driving and stop at a stop light the rpms drop to about 400 and slowly creep up to normal which is around 650 to 700. It has done this for about a year now. I just recently replaced my VSV, EGR sensor and EGR diaphragm due to a CEL code 71. I have tried disconnecting the battery and pulling the EFI fuse to clear all codes to see if that would fix it. From what I caan tell there are no vacuum leaks but I am going to start replace a bunch of the smaller lines just in case. Anyone else have this issue or have any insight?

Ray...you might end up cheaper paying Robbie (Powderpig) or SLEE or another local mechanic one hour of labor to get it straightened out? Just a thought. I had something similar a while back that Robbie was able to chase down.

One thing I would try first is to make sure you are not using cheap winter gas. The winter gas often causes this issue with our trucks, especially if it is not TopTear gasoline.

Also...how long has it been since your intake was cleaned? That was the biggest reason for rough idle on mine.

Default Throttle body cleaning

I too recommend a throttle body cleaning. My idle and stalling issues went away with a good thorough cleaning of the Throttle Body (intake).

Did you crack the air intake between the air filter and throttle body? It's pretty easy to do, and really messes up the idle.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been holding off getting with Slee or Robbie just to save myself a few bucks. I almost always run Shell gas in my Truck. There is a shell station on 128th and Colorado that actually carries 89 octane for mid grade. Yes that's correct, 89 octane.

I just replaced my intake boot a few years ago. That was one of the issues I checked first. I also just replaced all of the easy accessible vacuum hoses I could get to to see if that might be the issue.

Just spit balling on other items that could potentially cause this.

Idle Air Control Valve - sluggish to respond
The dashpot that catches the throttle on return isnít working properly
Mass Air Meter
Throttle position sensor
Vehicle speed sensor
Perhaps a sticky solenoid in the trans
Brake booster thatís leaking air
Egr valve or small egr control pipe is clogged
Leaky injector
