Another suggestion might be to contact Red Rock 4 wheelers and see if they have any good spots to suggest.
We discussed that at the November committee meeting, as we did have the big tent there one year a ways back. Committee member Scott Makee was tasked with investigating if that would be available, so far I haven't gotten word from him as to whether it might be available. RR4W uses the Spanish Trails arena. They charge $1,150.00/day. As far as I know we haven't contacted them yet. We only learned that we probably can't get the lot adjacent to and just Northwest of SRCG last week, it was sold the week before to a big corporation. Scott is supposed to try and contact the new owners, but the previous owner doesn't think they'll be interested.

I know that there are some functions like the music festival or art festivals that are held at the baseball diamonds in town or swanny park. Old city park in Spanish valley might be another one to check out there has been concerts held out there. Spanish trail arena has some grass areas with parking. When Jeep safari uses there parking lot it is a huge event and requires a lot more space.

Thanks Jason, we did check into Spanish Trails back in 2014 and at that time they wanted $1,150/day, but then we wouldn't have to rent the big tent to the tune of $5k+.

I had a nice long chat the other day with Craig of Kane Creek Campground, turns out Kurt of Cruiser Outfitters had already been talking with him. There is no cell service there and we could set up some kind of limited WiFi based on that phone line you referred to, but it would be super low bandwidth, no way could we have a bunch of people watching videos. He was going to discuss us with his partners and come back to us with some numbers on what they would charge. Turns out he's a cruiserhead, to that's a bonus!

This would be troublesome for Vendors who are selling at Vendor Night.

Are you saying you don’t want to accept IOUs this year Travis?

Troublesome all around for everything. We're working all angles, but it was a total monkey wrench when we found out we could not get a timely commitment on our usual lot next to Slickrock.

Depending on if the vendors use "Square (credit card swipe thing)" they are able to accept offline payments / card swipes. it stores as encrypted data and when service is reestablished all transactions are able to process.

but there is a catch. you wont know if someone has a declined card until you do have service.

https://squareup.com/pos/offline

just another option

Yep, we exclusively use Square & that catch isn’t worth the risk... especially at a remote event. However, CM isn’t a huge money maker for Vendors anyways. TBT, I’m not convinced that Vendors would be disappointed if they couldn’t sell. Not having to haul products to Moab would be a relief especially with Overland Expo the very next weekend.

The guys from Midwest Expedition Outfitters rented a satellite cc processing machine from their bank last year. They said it worked flawlessly aside from needing to be charged each night. Something like this may work for the Committee selling raffle tickets, dinners, & swag. Just a thought

At our monthly Cruise Moab committee meeting last night we decided to go with Kane Creek Campground for our headquarters. We plan on having some kind of VERY limited WiFi, no way anyone could stream videos but it would be enough for squares and would just be for committee and vendors. It's just that all of the satellite solutions that are (relatively) affordable have pretty limited B/W. For example, the Irridium satellite hotspot has a B/W of 24kbs.

Note that you can get full cell service and free WiFi just a mile or so back down Kane Creek road as you get into town.

I have a phone call scheduled with the campground owner later today and will learn many more details, I have a whole list of questions for him from the committee. Once I have that conversation I will share what I have learned.
