Got my registration renewal card today. No emissions required. So apparently their system has still not caught up.

Matt, I think you're grandfathered in, so the old rules still apply to your '77.

If you ever let the plates expire, and you register for classic plates again, then you're subject to emissions tests, and limited to 4,000 miles driving per year.

I missed getting my classic plates by 1 month, and then they didn't offer plates with restrictions...to me the new restrictions are too tight for my driving habits...I would have to disconnect my speedo cable for a while to "comply" with the 4,000 mile a year thing...

Maybe you could buy a second gauge cluster and pop it in for the mileage inspection. I ve seen a few gauge cluster rebuild tutorials on Mud. I am leaning in this direction.

They are only 5 digit odometers. Simply drive it 103,000 miles per year. Think of all the fun you'll have.

That's a great idea! On the other hand, how do they know how many miles you drive each year if you don't have to have emissions inspections? What sucks is my 71 and 78 are both grandfathered collectors plates, but when I get my 76 back running and driving, I am going to have to get emissions inspection (which I expected) but now subject to the 4k miles limit.

I hate when they keep changing the rules! Another issue I have is that the current standards in Colorado are more stringent than when our vehicles were certified. They didn't have any such thing as grams per mile in the 1970s (it was ppm), and of course they didn't have the treadmill test. I call BS!
