where do you plan to mount it? You'll want the dual band antenna, not just 2m

For my fender mount I'd go with one of these I think

I wish i would have done like you and gone with that radio from the beginning. I think i have more then that in my 2m radio, plus my sencond 2m, tt4, 1/4 wave antenna, and mount for aprs. Which isnt neary as elegant.

Default Mount

I'm thinking I will use some sort of a Hood mount
Most likely just fabricate something?
another detail I need to give more thought to.

What about a bracket on the side, same spot as the original radio antenna?

I am running mine off a bracket that uses one of the spare tire swing-out bolts, and it's out of the way enough though sometimes I think it would work better if its propagation wasn't sandwiched between the tire and body. So I keep thinking of making something that would mount next to the vent kick-out, but then I can't see how that could be done well without drilling another hole, so then I just leave it on the rear swing-out bolt.

edit: here's a picture..

Default Too Many Choices

I hadn't given much thought to putting it on the rear of the rig.
Looks good back there. What antenna is that?
I have the FTM350 in my 60 with a comet sbb1 antenna attached to the ARB Bull Bar works reasonably well for what I use it for...
I guess I just want a better mate for the FTM400 on the 40 with better range

I'm starting to think maybe the SBB5 would be a good match from the comet antenna line up?

I think it's a Comet somethingorother.. but don't remember. I've had an SBB5 before and thought it was a great antenna, until I smacked it on a tree branch and broke it- last time I do an upper rear hatch mount.

I like the back of the 40 because it's out of the way, but send/receive suffers being behind a wall. I don't like front bumpers because I don't like looking at them. Middle of the roof is best ground plane but also worst for trees.. side of the fender up front is a decent option, but can be in the way when you're working on stuff. It's all a compromise...

Subscribed. I am liking my fairly new FTM 400 and so far have only run it on 2M (I did the MARS/CAP mod to "open" the frequencies and had to buy a different antenna for the Baja 1000 race frequency). So I also will need a dual band antenna.
