Jeff,

I think they will take a mileage reading at emissions tests, and give the green light if the vehicle has less than 20,000 additional miles in the 5 year span.

You might be exempt still on your 76 for unlimited mileage, and no tests. I think that's the cut-off year...Wouldn't that be nice...

My odometer is 6 digits.

I was miffed about the 4500 mi/yr also, until I realized just how few miles I actually put on the 40. Probably 4000 in 2 years.. need to drive it more this summer.

Tests? Plural? I thought with classic plates one of the main reasons to get them is no more emissions tests ever? Since I had to have one when I first bought them, I have never had to have another one my 71 or my 78 tested, which I have owned for 19 years and 13 years respectively.

that changed a couple years ago and 76 and newer rigs now signing up for classic plates have to e test every five years

Default New to CO Emissions

Hello, new to the forum and having a blast reading through the posts. I drove my 79 40 down from AK and I now have to register the thing in CO. Sounds like a pain. It is desmogged and the previous owner just put a straight pipe exhaust out the side.

From reading it looks like I need an entire new exhaust system and get the smog pump working. I am not up for the challenge of learning how to do the exhaust - does anyone have any recommendations on where/how to have this done?

thanks
-Rob

I'd bet you'll need to start tracking down the parts to make the re-conversion happen. This has potential to be a long frustrating road boss. Either way, welcome to the forum and Colorado! 40's Rock!
