Default Anyone heard of these guys?

A friend sent me a link to these guys and I was curious if anyone has heard of them? http://https://l79-america.com/#home. Looks like they are based out of CO Springs.

ExPo ran an article about them a few weeks ago:
https://expeditionportal.com/is-the-...ng-to-america/
The guy leading it has participated in numerous known scams involving crowdfunding. Details are few and far between but they make it well known where to give your cash. About as shady as it gets as far as I'm concerned.

Amazing if this flys, but it does look like it is more scam than reality. Maybe in 256 days one will be able to find out for sure.

There's a thread about it on IH8MUD. If it quacks like a scam, looks like a scam and walks like a scam...

Seems he (John Papp) works at IBM in the Springs. Somehow I think this is not the same John Papp as CEO of L79-America.

No $hit... I for some reason felt compelled to read it also.

I'd stay away from that crap. Jesus.

For what it's worth, the difficulty isn't legally bringing them in, it is having the money to do so, and finding some sort of market for unsupported 100k rigs. The theory is solid. I've just never met anyone with the resources to pull it off. And I've always hesitated to support anyone that isn't willing or able to put up some money of their own first....

I've thought of bringing in the body and chassis then re-power it with a US spec drivetrain. That could be done and registered as a home build. But to pay someone turn key would easily hit nearly 200K for new parts. If I win power ball that would be like step 3. I'm sure I could be just as happy with a 5.7 under the hood. I'd just have the same guy who built these do it for me.
