Default 80's series and Telluride/Ouray trip

So I bought a 97 LC in January for the sole purpose of being a local trail rig. After a couple months of working on all the PM stuff, it's turning out much better than I expected and I'm loving it. We have a trip planned to Telluride/Ouray this summer in which I had planned to take my 5th gen 4runner. Now that the 80 is running so well, and just plainly more bad a**, I want to take the 80 instead. My question is, it's on the original head gasket. 190,000 miles. I've gone through the whole cooling system (hoses,PHH,therm, flush). Am I worrying about internet folklore, or is it a real concern and I should just take the 5th gen and not ruin our trip? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
Todd

Have any bubbles in the over flow when you rev up the engine to 3500-4000 and holding it for 2-3 min's? Does your temp needle climb past it normal spot when going up Floyd hill with traffic?
If so, then you may have an issue. If not take care and have fun.
