Default Need a winch guru - winch no worky

I purchased my superwinch talon 12.5sr last year. It has worked fine the three or four times I have used it. I tried to winch the rope in and it wouldn't do anything. I checked all my connections. Everything is tight. I am getting power to the winch. When I use the controller you can hear the solenoid clicking inside of the box but nothing happens. Need some advice on what to check. Thanks.

Are you in free spool mode? do you get the same results when you try to power both in and out?

I would first verify solid electrical connections at the battery, solonoids and motor. Dont forget the ground lead as it carries the same load as the hot lead. As Nak asked, does both power in and power out have the same problem?

Both power in and power out do not work. I double checked all my connections and everything seems to be in order. I have tired engaging and disengaging several times and nothing.

Does it click? Sounds like the controller might have issues.

Yeah it clicks. When I hit the button to roll in and roll out it clicks and nothing else. I have tried to get a hold of superwinch but no luck yet.

Clicking both modes sure makes it sound like a wonky ground or lead wire.

That or the motor has issues. Can you power up the motor with some jumper cables or something?

Finally got a hold of Superwinch support and they talked through a few different scenarios on what could be the issues. As soon as I get home I have to check to see if the motor is working which includes removing the solenoid box and wiring and running jumper cable directly from the battery to the winch itself. See attached documentation from Superwinch client support if interested. More to follow.

Looks like the motor in my winch is toast. I ran through the testing procedure that Superwinch support gave to me. I hooked it up directly to the battery with jumper cables to see if the motor would turn in either direction and nothing happened. I am lucky that it is still under warranty so I should be able just to swap out the motor but still sucks. Only 18 months old.
