I would stay away from MDF for this application. I made a temporary one out of MDF and it has not held up that well.

They seem to be holding up well. I made them for a 100 series. I chose 3/4" plywood. This is my 4th set to build and the ones I have made out of 1/2" ply weren't easy to construct squarely (maybe my abilities or quality of wood). I think you can do them for $350 if you shop around. Home depot will make a few cuts on a 4x8 sheet for you to get home.

$700 to your door, some assembly required. And final finishes. I plan to go this way at some point.
