Default Real off-roading

Happy December from Norway. Thought I would share some video clips with you from a trip we made to one of the sites. We were traveling about 200 meters from the Russian border the entire way, between Kirkenes, Norway and Murmansk, Russia. This was on Dec 2nd. It was -3 degrees and we started out at 1 PM. It is dark as night at that time in this area in winter.

Let me tell you, dogsledding is a LOT of work. You end up one-legging it a lot of the time to help the dogs get up the hills. If its really steep you hop of with both feet and run/push the sled while hanging on. Its funny because when the dogs start really working on a long hill they start looking over their shoulders at you with these "Hey buddy, time for you to help" looks. They really know how to work the guilt angle.

Can't wait to get home..........

I work for Motorola and I am the project director for a nationwide public safety system that covers all of Norway. Here is a link to a video the customer created for the formal launch of the system that occurred this week. My teams build the radio sites, dispatch centers, CAD equipment, mobiles, portables, etc., basically everything you see in the video. The launch was pretty cool, the King of Norway attended and I got to meet him.

I grew up with sled dogs. In fact, I never had a crib as a baby, my parents just put me in the basket of the sled.

It looks like it should be so easy, right? Just standing on the back of the sled while the dogs do all the work.... but you've discovered something that few realize: dog sledding is a lot of work for the musher too.

You also observed (in the second video) just how quiet it is as soon as you start moving. Those dogs are on a mission!

Thanks for sharing! Brings back good memories for me.

Dan

Cool Randy. I can't wait for snow down here so I can get our sled out of the garage.
