Default My Grandkid's 40

My first Grandchild isn't even born yet (due early December). I found this Peg Perego Gaucho on Craigs a little while ago, and thought it would be fun to do a build for all my future Grandkids.

In the spirit of My Sisters 40

http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/foru...ad.php?t=24170

I thought I'd share this project.

Ideas / Plans are...

Paint it to match Grandpa's 40
Modify old incandescent bulbs with LED's
Add lights to the fog lights, turn lamps, figure a way to make brake lights work.

Turn it in to a super-cool toy all the kids want to drive...

Here are some pictures of how I got it.

Removed the tub! It's weird how some of the plastic parts are fit together, I don't want to break anything I intend to keep, but there are parts that the toy manufacturer don't want to come apart! There are quite a few parts still available for this toy...And I loaded up on as many as I could find.

The front of the toy has front end damage from a head-on, and the front bumper connection has a big crack in the plastic where it mounts. I welded the plastic back together with an old soldering iron, and then reinforced the piece by gluing on some backing plastic pieces.

The rear of the toy has "real" suspension, but the shock boots were really cracked and damaged. I got some Rancho shock boots from the local 4X4 shop for 3 bucks a piece. The polymer plastic they are made of was flexible enough to stretch around the end of the spring. They were too long, but easily cut down, and then the end of the toy boot was cut to fit the cut end of the new boot. The toy end still rests inside the mount hole but the flange fits inside the new boot to hold it in place. It will work great, and the red boot still matches the fake front boot color...
