Default Total Solar Eclipse - August 21st 2017

I know this is SUPER early but we're only 500 days out from this event. On August 21st, 2017 there will be a total solar eclipse passing directly over the continental USA and only a few hours north of metro Denver. I am planning to drive up to watch it. Plans will necessarily be loose until the three day weather forecast happens as the event actually arrives.

Here is more info on the eclipse:

http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/...7/TSE2017.html

The eclipse path goes right over Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon. There have to be a few good dirt roads where a group of us could go to watch.

Put it on your calendars now!

500 days is definitely not too far out. My friends and I have have been planning a camping trip in eastern Oregon to coincide with the eclipse since 2012 when we first caught word of it.

Before I moved to Colorado 2.5 years ago, I was planning the same thing! Lots of good places to observe in eastern Oregon.

How far north do you need to be?

Middle of Wyoming more or less. Check out this for the exact places to be: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/...7/TSE2017.html

Looks like anywhere between Jackson and south side of the Tetons would be pretty sweet places to take it in.

It'll all be dependent on cloud cover. My plan is to identify a half dozen or so spots between Cheyenne, WY and Bend, OR. Three days out I'll decide which part of the path will have the least cloud cover and head in that direction two days out. One day out, I'll narrow down to the exact spot with a backup spot nearby. Can't miss this one!

Here is the path, as Douglas indicated weather is what is going to drive the best location to view the event.

Well I guess that sets the dates for my annual Montana trip. I have a camping spot just south of Jackson that I have used the past 3 years and that can easily handle 20 rigs, just in case anyone else is interested.
