Default 2nd Annual New Years Run

Like every year I resolve to spend more time on the trail. So to start the year out right, join me for a New Years Run (1/1/16)! We will run Switzerland Trail.

1) It will be cold

2) There will be snow, maybe lots of it.

3) You will probably get stuck at some point.

4) It will be fun.

If you are interested, there will be a rig cap on this run to keep everything moving. I do anticipate more snow and ice than last year, so to be prepared, I will ask for a few rig restrictions:

1) 33" tires

2) Solid recovery points front and rear

3) CB radio (handheld CB is fine)

4) Experienced drivers. We may get into sticky situations, or it may be a cake walk. That's the fun!

5) Additional gasoline, just in case

6) Well maintained vehicle. Please check everything before coming out to this run.

I like the saying, "Plan for the worst, hope for the best." Please be sure to bring the following:

1) Recovery gear:
a) D-rings
b) Straps
c) Winch
d) Shovels

2) Cold weather gear and survival equipment:
a) Sleeping bags
b) Layers of warm clothes, hats, gloves
c) Fire starting gear
d) First aid kit
e) Additional food
f) Additional water

3) Good attitude

If there is a lot of snow, there may be a lot of stop and go as we break fresh powder and work as a team to move forward. We will switch off who is breaking trail so everyone gets a shot at it.

All this sound good? Good! We will cap at 6 rigs total. I'll start a list of rigs in the next post. Here's the plan:

Meet at 9:00 am at the Shell on Boulder Canyon Drive here:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sh...49960935ec3834

If Switzerland turns out to be too neutral for us and goes quickly, we will hit up a couple more trails like Bunce School road or Middle St. Vrain if we want the additional challenge.

Thanks everyone!

Bunce and Middle St Vrain are closed for the season as everything else with a gate on it. Gordon Gulch, just South of Switzerland Trail has some fun roads without gates.

For survival equipment, I might add food and water. Unless you plan to have a Donner party. Just saying'.

Wish I could join you all. I miss Colorado!

There is usually lots of playing to be had before you actually reach the gate at Bunce which is cool. Last year we broke some serious trail. I wasn't sure about Middle SV.

LoL
Whatever.

Also, this kind of depends on if the Red Chili and the Honey Badger can even roll out of the garage by then... LoL. Ugh.

Just ran the first section of Switzerland on Sunday. Sugarloaf to sunset. Unless it dumps you should be a-ok. Probably about 8" of snow with lots of tracks, and trail showing on the edges. I made it all the way through that section in 20 minutes and even played a bit in the one rocky campsite section. 4hi and didn't air down.

1/2-3/4 of the way through it gets a little deeper and tends to drift. Caution here if there is old deep snow... Last year it took me about 18 hours to get unstuck out of that one.

Wish I could make it!
