Yeah I will get back to Hobby Town one of these lunches.. vendor night at Cruise Moab kind of took its toll on the poor child.. somehow we broke a control arm link, blew out a shock, and bent the drag link in front. I also have a bent axle from the PO.. could be time for some downtime for a little R&R.

I saw some of those obstacles at the Slick Rock campground, I'm surprised you didn't have more body damage.

Mike's toys thread made me look at RC videos for the past hour or so... but this is one of the better FJ-40 builds/vids I've seen. He actually reminds me of someone in the club (wheelin' style) see if you can guess?

That's a CC-01.. looks like it's open in front, and a little smaller than the CR-01? About the same size an the SCX10. Anyone know all the differences, in these RTR groups?

CC-01 has a generic plastic tub frame that they use for loads of different models just by relocating the rear axle and popping in a different rear driveshaft. They are IFS, open in front, but you can lock the rear. They can be bought pre-assembled, pre-painted, and even come with full LED lights. They do sell a hop up kit that allows the rear axle to droop more, but these are mostly "scale" 4wd trucks and not that good at driving over rocks unless modded. You really need lower pinion gears, added flex, etc.

CR-01 is a ladder frame, solid axle, high flex "crawler". The steering servo is mounted on the axle, which isn't my favorite looks wise, but works much better than some of the alternatives.

The SCX-10 is more of the best of both worlds there. Very scale looking, but solid locked axles front and rear. They come with the steering servo on the axle as well, but can be easily modded to look just like cross-over hi steer.

I don't know for sure, but pretty positive that the CC-01 and the CR-01 use a different scale body. The SCX-10 is a longer wheel base out of the box than what the CC-01 body will likely fit.

That vid above is pretty good & realistic. He's modded that CC-01 a good bit. RC4wd tires and wheels, looks like a link mod, and it would appear he's put weight down low and put a smaller pinion in. Still, for an "affordable" out of the box truck, it's hard to beat the fun factor of the CC-01.

Oh, and Tamiya has been re-releasing a bunch of the classic toyotas lately. You should pop on their site and check them out.
