Default Ftm-350

I've been waiting to see what Yaesu is coming out with new.

Tra has been complaining on runs that she can't hear the banter on my 8r handheld. I've been thinking of the 8800 since I want dual band but I think i'm holding out for the ftm-350

Supposed to do broadcast AM/FM receive. That would be pretty cool so that you don't have to worry about turning down the radio and missing a call.

APRS and GPS is awesome, finally Yaesu competes catches up with Kenwood. And I like the dual speaker head unit as well. Looks like the GPS antenna is not ready for view, but I can't find a good enough photo to show what connection it might have. USB would make it cross compatible.

I just noticed that the head unit has a mic and PTT just like the FTM-10. If it was sensitive enough, and if you had a quick turn p/s box to prevent cable wrap, you could mount the head unit to your steering wheel center (pre airbag). That PTT switch must be for bluetooth headset use, yes?

Dang...That thing appears to have a backlit screen doesn't it? Call it a pickle but do I install my new FT8800 or wait for this to come out, sell the FT8800 and buy one of these? The only thing I really don't like about the 8800 is the lack of light - I was thinking of fabbing up a small LED to shine on the 8800 at night...

I think I would prefer to just go with the Kenwood:

I did buy the Yeasu 857D, but that was because I wanted the HF and the ability to to use it as a base in the house. When more club members have APRS I will get an APRS enabled unit.
