Default Dream Build Thread

...discovered these builds (I knew about Gary's truck (have seen it) but didn't know much of the background of the build) and am trying to keep the drool off of my keyboard...and trying to keep my head screwed on straight...and am dangerously pondering the possibilities of pursuing a project of this magnitude...

...of course it would be hard for me to justify the cost and time spent doing something like this, but dang they just look so cool and seem to be the perfect blend in my book. I just keep thinking about the '68 we pulled out of the mountains a couple years ago that didn't have a title - perfect donor for this kind of build. I would probably go zornff style and do an extra cab FJ40 with a custom bed - http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-cor...uild-long.html

Just wanted to share the agony I'm going through looking at these builds, wishing somewhere deep down inside that I could build something similar. Wonderful build skills - great job to the guys who put these trucks together. I always thought, since I first started getting into Land Cruisers 8 or 9 years ago, that an 80 series chassis underneath a 40 series body would be a pretty sweet build. But Gary throwing in the 2UZ-FE just puts the icing on the cake - I won't look at my Tundra the same ever again (yeah it's a small V8, but it's still a V8).

Anyway, carry on...

Matt,

I feel your pain as well. I watched both those build threads on MUD with the same envy. My 40 rebuild is still a few years out but I want to do the same. Maybe with an 18" stretched body tub from here: http://www.aqualu.com/aqualu_land_cr..._parts_002.htm I know I'll hear some crap about the aluminum, but rust won't be an issue anymore. Then I'll just have to combine a pair of hard tops.

If I was going to do any of this it would be a 45lv on top of a fzj80 frame. It would be retro but nice and comfy with room for the family.

Bill you've already been down a similar trail. Its just a matter of another trip for you.

Exactly. Could barely afford the first trip. A second? It would be multiples of the cost of the first!
I've already had to face the dragon's maw... I now drive my wife's old '97 4Runner and have to fight the urge to build it into a mild SFA vehicle!!
