Default Denver shop for pre-purchase inspection?

Hi, all-

I am looking at picking up a '98-'99 4Runner with the aim of doing some light off-roading. Can anybody recommend a shop that's familiar enough with these trucks to do a pre-purchase inspection and check out the trouble spots? Is there anything I can check out by sticking my head under the vehicle (e.g., rear diff leak)?

The 4Runners I'm looking at are in Littleton, Lakewood and Aurora.

Irbis Off Road of course would be my first choice. Shop is moving-call ahead.

I can do it. Mark Greene Automotive on Mississippi and Pierce and I'm a factory Toyota trained Tech. I believe we charge $46.50 for just a visual inspection and $93.00 for same, plus a compression check.

Wow, lots of great answers. I'm glad to see there is an active community here.

I will have to get out for a group drive when trails open up in the spring. Then you all can teach this idiot coming from sports cars how to not break his truck.

we don't wait until spring to go out on trails!

We have several snow runs during the winter, one of the biggest is coming up soon after the new year! It helps to have recovery points front and rear though, at least the past couple winters it has...

Welcome!

Awesome.

Everything I'm looking at is pretty much stock, 100-140k miles. I'm going to do some light modifications, but nothing crazy. I figure tires, sliders maybe a bumper and winch. Maybe a small lift too if the shocks are already worn out.

If you are going to build it up then find one with the best maintenance history you can, even if it doesn't have shinny new treads etc. No sense in paying $$ for stuff you'll just replace. When I bought my LX it had near bald tires. Dealer offered to put on new tires but I negotiated to have the cost of the tires deducted from the purchase price instead because I knew I'd be getting tires I wanted, not stock size tires.

Oh, and welcome

Seems like most of what I'm seeing is the same... first or second owner who has good records for the last few years but not much before then.

Has anybody checked out the inventory at "Luxury Motors" in the Tech Center? Holy smokes... rusted out, leaky, busted and listed for $6k over market value.
