I was not impressed with the Alcans that were put on my ex-employee's SAS'ed 4Runner. At the time, they were spec'd and installed by now defunct Advanced Off-road (AOR) in GJ, complete with noisy Orbit-Eyes. The blame was really that the springs were too short resulting in bad shackle angle. Nonethess, it was a high-buck SAS swap done with at the time, cutting edge stuff like a Currie-prepped 85 front axle with chevy 1/2-ton outers, HP 3rd with an ARB and Cr-Mo axles. The rear had long springs with relocated hangers which rode rough for what it was, even with the custom-spec'd Bilstein shocks.
Sounds like a nice truck. The Orbit-Eyes were a neat idea that fell down on execution IMHO. It does sound like the install was not quite thought through; my Alcans ride quite nicely.

I contacted Deaver.

Hmmm... they will make me a customer pair of leafs for about $600-650. Kinda in the Alcan range. Another thing that changed recently with Alcan is, they started using thicker leafs (mine are the thinner version). The Deaver sales guy sounded pretty impressive, the steel sounds first rate.

They come with sleeved bushings too, and U bolts. Hmmm... Thanks for the brain food!

Earlier than that! Smart folks have been trying to get rid of full leafs for a long time!
