Default the definitive awning thread

I was very tempted to jump on one of Christo's African Outback close outs.. then looks like I missed out. So that got me thinking of an awning, and which one should I get.

So let's see all the options out there.. my leading contender at this point is the Shady Boy http://www.shadyboy.com/the-awning/ at under $250, it's got a small hard case and can extend without legs.. sets up in about 5 minutes. For higher wind you can put up some optional legs. If you have 7 minutes to kill and want a good laugh, check out this kid Caleb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5220xnbLRcw , I love it.

My second choice right now is the one from Campinglab.. http://www.campinglab.com/awning.html it uses legs, but it's pretty solid. Only thing I don't like is the full length casing, makes my truck look like an electrical contractor..

then there's the budget homebrew style http://forum.ih8mud.com/camping-outd...outs-pics.html

or the home made one with PVC casing http://www.lcool.org/technical/sunshade/sun_shade.html which I'll give it up for ingenuity, but looks kinda ghetto, IMO.

what else do you know about awnings..

Fox wing awning. Can be had with panels that zip on to make it larger or serve as walls.

I am adding this to the site this week. I believe they have a special and it is about $650;

The Italian made awning that AT sells looks like a good product for the price.

And the smaller ARB unit comes at a good price.

If money is no object then the Eezi-awn or Hannibal products are pretty darn nice. I've really wondered how well the stake-less awnings would hold up in a wind gust, but the Hannibal guys sure swear by that product.

Man, that thing is, might have to consider one for Outlaws Run 2010... This was the one you had at the Rally right? Was drooling over that back in August.

Nakman, there's always the Eazi-Awn Awning

Wow, $300, $400, $700! Awnings are serious out of my league money. I got an EZ-Up from Gart's for $50. Ugly, really red, heavy ... yup. I've pretty much spent the difference in a ton of beer to drink under the thing for years now. I'm liking that ghetto tarp-in-a-PVC-pipe Aussie one a lot, though.

I may try to build that one. Improvements could be made to minimize the ghetto looks

Tim- I use the Carport XL from Kelty. It attaches to a roof rack or RTT... I will see if I can dig up a pic.
