Default Sunroof Shattered

On my way to Vail this AM, I was pelted with a couple of minor rocks on my windshield but nothing I would think would lead to this.

A little later, suddenly my heart almost jumped out of me when I hear what sounds like a shotgun going off. That is when I found that my Sunroof completely disintegrated. As most would I wrote it off as a rock but I wonder if it was more? Temperature, Rock, Elevation? I just can't believe a rock could get under my African Outback roof rack and have enough velocity to cause that?

In any case my real need is to get my sunroof glass replaced. Any suggestions on who to call? I am heading to Toyko in the AM and then off to Hawaii the week later. Does Go Toyota still honor our discount for being a TLCA member?

Also, If I read right I may be able to tackle it in a few hours? Seems that there are about 8 screws holding the glass in place? If I go with new glass I get the nice felt that should remove any of the noise associated with the older.

Thanks Guys,
John

I think Christo has one. Call him in the AM.

If Christo does not have one try Johns Sunroof on S broadway. They installed the sunroof for us in the FJC and did a great job. I first used them in 1982.

Everytime I go through a car wash (and get leaked on ) I wonder/worry about the sunroof...Especially when the dryers start blowing. I wonder if the pressure differential plus even a small rock at 60+ mph could do the trick...

As for the Sunroof - Try Joe over at Groove (Go) Toyota for the Rising Sun Member's discount (not sure if they honor the TLCA discount)...Also Derek at Stevenson since it looks like you'll be outta town for awhile (if you aren't able to make the March meeting I'd be willing to grab it for you and bring it down south). You could also try Cruiserdan but shipping on a sunroof might offset the difference in price/tax.

I broke mine last year. They are not that expensive and surprisingly easy to replace! Pop of the plastic trim pieces, remove 4 nuts, note the shims location, remove, replace and put it back together. Hardest part is vacuuming the glass out of the tracks and the cover. What broke mine was I unwittingly decided to move my RTT forward for kicks. Without noticing the mounting bolts were above the sunroof glass. Driving up Rollins Pass road the night before the work party with the moonroof tilted up a hard bump on a pothole resulted in worthless diamonds a plenty!
