Question JIS Screwdrivers

I was reading a thread over on Mud, and a guy was complaining about stripping the tops of his Phillips-head screws until he bought a set of Japanese Industrial Standard screwdrivers. I thought it was a joke. But no -- here they are at McMaster-Carr.

I'm tempted to buy item no. 53325A41 JIS Screwdriver 4-Piece Standard Set at $14.05, just to see how they are different.

Anyone have JIS screwdrivers?

If they work, its a good deal. I try not to think of the final price of my tools/materials when I need them in a pinch. The closest HD or Lowes, or anything for that matter is a 50+ mile round trip.

Good tools save money over time. Send me a set and I'll test them for ya!

the concern I would have is the makeup of the handle. I have not had a lick of trouble with my MAC stuff, but then an 6pc set was 120.00 almost 15 years ago.

The tips won't mean anything if the handles degrade at the touch of solvent or gasoline. damhik.

Good point.

I have never bought nice screwdrivers, only ever the crummy ones. I use them to pry crap out and as punches too often.

Some of them melt nicely when exposed to carb cleaner.

I'll let you know if these melt, i'll have them tomorrow and i'll try it.
