Default (AUSSIE)H41 and 3spd case

running 35's and 4.11's leaves me no 4 low anymore.

does anybody here have an H41 and 3spd case with 4.11's and 35's??? how is it? does it do ok for regular colorado wheelin'.
My plan is to get the H41 and 3spd gears in the 4spd case installed and run it until i can afford an ORION.
but in the meantime i want 4 low back.

please dont tell me the 420 or the 465 trannys are better cause as far as im concerned they can stay in the dump trucks they came in.not my beloved cruiser, i do drive on the road and I love my cruiser 4spd.

so an orion is what 1500-1600?

you buy an h41 5 bills min probably more like 800 you need a rebuild kit for the tcase maybe one for the tranny.

seems only slightly less than an orion and h42.

I'd run a sm420.. old school low

yeah its a now or later kinda thing.no matter what im gonna spend some coin.
I plan on putting 3spd gears in my 4spd case,so there's another couple bucks that become useless when the orion shows up.
i dont know what to do.aint gonna be a 420 though.
gonna keep this thing a toyota for now.

That is the exact set up I will be doing to my 69. I have driven a setup with 33's and it was just fine in 4low at Jenny creek. It had the h42 though. I would think you could pick up something cheap and don't bother rebuilding if it seems solid. Save the coin for the Orion.

Wait and go Orion....Air Randy has the set up you are talking about, hopefully he will chime in.

Or you can do what the cool kids do. Tree Fitty, SM420, Rock Box.....boo yeah!

I think the only improvement on the 350 (w/Fuel injection); is 700 R4, Rock Box, and ARBs.

OK, I need the Rock box...

True that....for now it's just for show....get the Rock Box and now you are going places, low and slow.

And by the way you aint the only one with the fuel injection!

I have an Orion 4-1TC and H41 running 4.88 gears and 39" tires. I love the combination but I did it sort of in reverse. I went to the 4-1 TC first, which was a huge improvement for off road and crawling. The only problem was low was so low that my top speed in 4th gear was like 10 mph. Plus for hard core crawling being just a little lower was attractive.

I got my H41 from Mark's Offroad, no need to rebuild it, just slapped it in. Now I have a first gear thats low enough in high range that for mild obstacles offroad I don't have to shift in to low, yet it's still usable in high range driving on the street. Now when I'm in low-low I have about 130-1 reduction. The H41 isn't geared as low as the 420/465's but it's a straight bolt in and very driveable.

Also keep in mind that the guys with the 350's may beat you over the pass driving on the pavement (if they don't over heat or have their TBI crap out on them ) but your F motor will kick their butts every time offroad in low range where it really counts. Straight 6's rule!

I have been running 3spd gears in my 4spd case for awhile now.. the 3spd gears are definitely louder..... But help even with the 33" tires.
I have an H41 sitting in my garage because i was planning on doing the same thing quite awhile ago, then i bought a RockBox, and found out from Kevin what a hassle they can be before i put it in... (still new in the box).

Jim Sanville helped me do the 3spd gears in the 4spd case, and it was not too bad.
(did it when i rebuilt the 2F)... It helps, but the Marlin Crawler in the Runner has spoiled me....
