If you're interested in putting another 220 breaker in the box and running a permanent circuit out to the shop I'd be happy to help you with that. Breakers & wire are pretty cheap.

I made an extension cord for my welder from an RV extension cord I got for $10 on CL. It's 50' long and very HD but still flexible, it handles the amperage at 220V no problem.

Congrats Robbie.

I too need to build an extension cord. I added a new, dedicated 230v circuit into the garage from the panel, but found I still need the ability to move the cart around more than I can now. So if you end up buying bulk cord, I'd pay you for 25' of extra. I was thinking 8/3, but if the braintrust on the forum thinks 6/3 is the way to go, then I'd be in for that.

thanks guys, I am excited.
Randy, I am not adding a deciated line to the shop just yet. Plans changed a bit recently. May just need to run a wire straight off the pole and transformer if it all works out and I build something this year. Which means I will need to higher a Electrictian and pay the big bucks. I do not want to end up in the dirt, face down not breathing.
Home Depot here in Boulder want 3.09 ft for the 6/3 I may have a lead on some for around 2.30-2.40 ft in Denver. I just need to contact him and see what he can do for me on Monday.
there was a guy selling it for $2 a ft out of Ohio, and free shipping. but Cooper went up this morning, go figure, now he is selling it for 2.50 ft with free shipping.
I will look at Lowes this weekend as well and see what the prices are there as well.
Anyhow, The hunt for a good price continues.

All of those prices are pretty decent, particularly ~$2.30 locally or $2.50 shipped. An unspooled length of 100 feet of SOOW 6/3 is gonna weigh around 55 lbs.

You might call CED here in Denver and see what their price is and if they do credit sales.

Like Randy says, an RV extension cord would be ideal, so maybe check Camping World or the RV dealers. Might be realistic or cheaper and would have plugs on each end already.
