Default How is your business or industry doing?

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd start a thread and take the pulse of everyone's business these days. I am in construction, and things are terrible slow. We do large-scale projects, and no one can get funding since about 3Q of 2008 unless it's Federally funded. Lots of sharp folks are out of work and have been for a while now, and those with work are slowing down as backlog decreases.

Are things looking up in your business? What industries are doing well in the downturn?

I was just bought out of my work study job with an institutional grant. Our financial aid office over extended itself and needs to reclaim some funds. The college opporrtunity fund stipend and tuition are both rumored to change next year, and I'm only expecting it to become more expensive. Hopefully some of this money is better managed for work study funds next year, not having work stinks

Telecommunication, old school version...That should be all you need to know

All you guys getting rid of home phone lines and going Cell or VoIP only means the writing is on the wall...Just a matter of time - Unfortunately it seems like the economy may actually get even worse, before it gets better. Government jobs seem to be the biggest gainer going but government doesn't really create "productive" jobs if you know what I mean...

Auto biz is slow and steady. It's a hell of a lot slower than it was years ago but at liest it's still steady. More and more ppl fixing there own stuff. Or at liest trying to. Which turns into larger tickets for us. Lol so smaller car count but bigger tickets. So eeeeeeaah

We will never get rid of our "land line" at home!

The bike business is picking up, but just not crazy like it should be.

It does seems that everything is clicking along, but very few industries are doing as well as in, say, 2006. I hope to see some real change in 2011 or 2012.

Hey I resemble that remark..

Government... pay is declining, furlough days...Benefits going down... but the paycheck shows up every month (monthly paychecks)..

Currently I am pretty frustrated... Sometimes I think "they" "want" us to be "government workers"... My supervisor/coworker likes to drive around a lot.. We have work coming out of the ying yang... and we spend our days socializing about 70% of the time... Its pretty much pissing me off... I have spoken to regional managers/department heads... and I am told to shut up.

see other post about relocating...

Telecommunications is awful! Anyone know of any sales jobs in telecom for a veteran of 20 years in the industry let me know. The true umemployment figures are alot higher than what they are telling you.....

I fully agree with you about the unemployment numbers.
