Telecom is still plugging away at the 'low cost geographies' but there has been a resurgence of U.S. support over the last few months. The mom and pop shops are unfortunately a demographic that is costly to support. The prospect of supporting one big customer is more profitable than supporting millions of small shops.

You might be the only one - The reality is, you may not have a choice in the long run. You can't serve a small handful of customers with multi-million dollars worth of equipmnet and stay in biz. For now Qwest is the "last provider of choice" so they are required by the PUCs to provide phone service no matter what just in case someone doesn't have a viable option for phone service. Years ago folks didn't have viable options...Now with cell phones, VoIP, cable phones, etc. this isn't the case so it is only a matter of choice before the RBOCs win the case of no longer having to be held to that requirement. AT&T has already requested the FCC officially state a date when POTS service is "sunsetted".

- My bad choice of words, although I know what you are referring to about gov't workers and being "productive". What I should have said is that for the most part gov't jobs don't "produce" anything. Government is where the biggest boon in jobs are but when you realize that this includes 16K+ more IRS agents for Obamacare etc. suddenly the job growth doesn't like such a great thing

Just got back to working for the F&B industry (food and beverage) and things are plotting along. Quite a bit of casinos are filling chapter 11 but not for being broke, more as a way to restructure cheaply. Everyone up here (Black Hawk) is pretty profitable still but not like they were a few years ago. 24 hour and higher limits hasn't seen its potential yet but it will as more people get back to work, or get those backlogged raises they've been expecting.

With that said, I accepted a job for less than I know I should be getting paid, but its better than nothing. Maybe Obama could pitch in on my wage due to the economy?

I work for Denver Public Schools and we are feeling the state budget crunch for sure in the department budgets. They are doing everything they can to lean up and save as many jobs as possible. So far in my areas they have been able to limit the job losses to atrition and have not had to lay people off yet.

Interesting thing about the job market. We have had a Quality control job posed for a while on our website and on monster and we are not seeing that many construction people apply to it. The job is multi trade quality control inspections for the bond construction. We figured we would get some good construction supervisors who have the experience in building were looking for applying but apparently they are not on monster or don't need jobs. Go figure.

We have got a asston of architects applying but we want people who can build stuff for this job.

BTW this is pretty much what I do for DPS also.

Disclaimer: I don't do the hiring, I don't "put in a good word" and the most qualified person will be hired by the people doing the hiring.

I sell large computers to communications and media companies, including the ones mentioned in this thread. It's the worst year I've had in awhile.

I work for a satellite Internet company. While the recession has hit everyone, an Internet connection has become a necessity for many people, so we have weathered the storm better than others. We're kind of like a utility these days. Many people rank the Internet as more important than TV or phone service (but not as important as electricity or natural gas).
