Default It's ALIIIIVE

so finally got on the air last night!!

install was successful, and came out about as clean as I could make it, will probably tidy up some things as I go along...

got on 146460 and transmitted a bit.

my house is at hwy 93 and 64th basically, and was able to get in touch with root at 120th and huron pretty clear which is really good antennae to antennae imuho (in my un-experienced humble opinion)

so with that, here's some pics cause i like pictars better than words

first one is the radio and the new mount from nakman, thanks nakman and/or groucho or whoever, still unclear about who/how that works but I ordered it from gamiviti.com so I'll holla out a heck yes to Nakman for that one!!

radio came w/ new fused 10ga power supply line, very nice

my work buddy threw in a diamond NR770R dualband mag mount antennae.

So that worked out really well because the 'mag mount' portion was fully tear-downable so I took it apart and used the antennae and coax and elbow to integrate into the new mount location on the DS fender:

so here's an up close of the mount, I think i'll re-think the coax run into the antennae and go get one of those real thin runs so there's plenty of room between hood and fender gap without crimping the coax, its bending slightly now when hood is closed, so I think I need to do that. Thanks again Nakman for pointing out that they even make such a thing..I'll have to get some skinny ordered up...

I was able to get real good power to it using these military style battery terminals, these will get re-orinated the other way eventually using the stud mounts on back of battery box....

Default continued...

now the radio is mounted in a spot that isn't perfect,
but I think it will work well....

it is protected more or less by the two seats on each side and its still reachable if adjustmentes are needed, its low enough for the center console will open up and clear the top of the radio.

it also will allow the rear seats to fold forward without interference.

It also puts the MIC within convenient reach and allows for the cable runs to be hidden and protected fairly well.

so...the wife probably didn't want it there, but its better than other alternatives again ...imuho

will need to address securing these wires more thoroughly but this shows orientation on the rear console with giant heat sync

soo....big thanks for snowrun
for the assist and input

and I'm real glad to be on the air!

now the guys can stop making fun of me for being the only vanity call sign holder w/o a radio...

Great stuff Mike. My radio is mounted to the center console also but underneath the cupholder, since i've got a removable faceplate I don't really need access to it as much. I would worry about kids kicking it back there, personally, I'm sure it will be fine though until you think of something else- would it fit in a single din radio slot?

One thing you can do on your antenna mount for added peace of mind is move your hood over a little bit- just loosen those 4 hinge bolts and shift it like 1mm or so... not enough to create a big ugly gap but just enough to take the edge off the wire?

And let me know if you need any more mic holders!

i was prolly gonna order a mic holder for the coin slot cause the mic lands about perfect right there!

i was thinking about the hood thing yesterday, mentioned it to john, I'll probably do that and see if that gives me enough clearance to not change the coax.

am worried about the kids kicking it, I told the wife we'll have to banish the littlest that sits in the middle seat to the third row since my third row stays in place all the time for kiddy carpools and such...

i'm stoked to be on air when need be!!!

Right on.. your latch in front will also shift, if you need it to, and I'd still get the skinny cable up there some day but it sounds you've bought yourself some time. nice work!

Very cool and looks good. The location likely won't be a problem at all. Very good work.
