I am running an fj60 gear box with saginaw pump with hydro assist and it works great running 38.5 tsl/xs. With hydro assist it WILL turn with arb locked, but its not happy about it.
Mini truck stuff works decent up to 33's. Do it once and be done. Its not fun to have your ability to run bigger tires limited by your power steering set up that you recently installed. Ask me how i know

I love this conversion on my 40
I run 33's
Getting rid of the center arm and extra TRE's was a wonderful improvement.
I like the fact that the Toyota box does not stick out in front of the crossmember and require boring a hole through said crossmember.
More information than you ever wanted about this:

Default Great thread!

That's the thread that got me a little scared to do the FJ60 swap in my garage...I'm just not that skilled yet. It looks sweet, though!

BUT...with some extra FJ60 PS parts after I fixup the 60, I figured that might be a cost effective way to go. maybe more cost effective, but more difficult.

I did the Saginaw on my 69 40 and love it. Much more responsive without the additional pivot points creating extra slop through the additional linkage on the stock set-up. You can get the couplers, shafts and other parts from any hot rod shop (ie Streamline @ 8th avenue and Kalamath) and the pump and gear box from any auto parts supply.
