Default Tim'z m416 Trailer build

so after much planning and pre planning along with scrutinizing my own autocad file several times. i've finally started building my m416 trailer. i went and picked up all the steel.. and holly crap.. its heavy. when the forklift droped it onto my truck my truck droped like 2" but my little 22r had no problems..

ill have some more pic's tommorw or the next day.. i ran out of welding wire..
at first i was mocking it up on the floor and when i was almost done, i lifted the frame up on end to grind down some corners.. and noticed that none of the joints were flat.. so i proped the trailer up on 2x4 in 4 corners, so that i can work on all the joints. i ended up cutting all my tack welds and using a c-clamp and 2x4 to press them togther.. to make a flat joint. And i had to do 6 joints, with 4 tacks per.. lol

What wall thickness tubing are you using? Looks like .250 wall.

I built my old camping trailer frame out of .090 wall 1.5x2.5" tubing.

FWIW, it was a tiny little trailer, but did exactly what I needed and was a perfect size for a mini truck to pull. I pulled it to King of the Hammers in 2009 and back.

I sold it earlier this year though.

LOL! The military M416 I think uses 0.120" wall tubing. I think the M35A2 might use 0.250" wall thickness in its frame...

It's 2x3 box 1/8" and the toung is 3 x 3 x 1/4" and the telosoping toung is 2.5 x 2.5 x 1/4" for the reciver. And the rear bumper is 2x4x1/4" for pure rear end colision impacts. (just incase) I know its over kill but it wont bend in a colision. Or when you slide off the road on black ice. Lol

It's only overkill until your truck is so heavy it can't move. Which with a 22R-E is a real possibility. :-)

Unless of course you plan to cargo rate it the same as a deuce and a half, which is 22,000 lbs gross for the highway. If so, never mind.

got the sheet medal for the tubs today. the lids will be ariving later this week.. its kinda a pain in the ass to put all this togther.. defentlly need two ppl and some magnets.. just tack weld one spot then flex it to fit properlly, then tack it.. and keep going.. had to place it togther upside down to gaurentee that the top of the tub was flush.

the end cap goes on the outside of the floor and the sides sit ontop of the floor and somthing on the floor was just a tad off my about the material thickness..
