Default Extend Brakes lines?

Extend brake lines or not with 2.5" lift? Iron Man lift but lets say OME Heavy for comparison. This is FZJ80 by the way My searching MUD seems to come up with a 50/50 split on yes/no.

I did not notice any major binding when installing the lift but I could not drop both sides of the same axle at the same time.

I just don't want to find out this weekend on Black Bear that I should have extended things.... Breathers have already been done by the way. The rear was almost off just from DD.

I have the OME "heavy" lift all around and have not extended the brake lines. Christo installed the lift so I'm guessing if I had needed the extended brake lines, he would have told me so

I've been wheeling it that way for 3+ years with no problems...I'm not hardcore but I know that I've had the suspension at full droop on many occasions. So my vote would be "no", you don't need to extend the brake lines.

Yep at least for the OME lift (heavies, med, anything but J's/L's) most of the info I found says stock lines are ok, since all those lifts use the same shocks and have the same droop. My cruiser had the stock lines and heavies when I bought it.

I did replace with the longer lines when i did calipers, but that was only because the lines were a bit rotted with age, and I figured why not incase the lift ever goes bigger.

How does the ironman shock compare to the standard OME on full extension?

One thing you can do is disconnect the brake line from the sway bar in front, that will give you a little more slack. But as others have said you should be fine..

It has to do with your shock length. Check Ironman's lengths against OME and see.

shock length is within a few mm so I'm going to say I'm fine then. Thanks everyone

Tim's swaybar comment reminded me of something. Not a bad idea to check the front swaybar mounts (especially the ends at the axle housing) from time to time. If one or both let go you stand a good chance of losings your front brakes.

I haven't heard of anyone having this happen other than on the Rubicon trip. IIRC 3-4 80s had the front swaybars get damaged and maybe that many had issues/damage to the rears as well. IIRC CDan had the worse carnage but I can't remember if it ripped out his brake lines or not....

Maybe you've already addressed this with the bling bling parts

I have not tackled the sway bars yet with my bling. But I will be sporting the bling tow hooks this weekend.

i had it happen on kingston peak last year. i thought i'd be safe because my brake line wasn't bolted to the sway bar, but the brackets ripped off allowing the sway bar to rise and the head of the bolt that holds the sway bar kissed the hardline and sheared it. not a pleasant feeling, especially considering the b.s. you have to go through to adjust the e brake
