Default Where to source a transmission for my 1997 4runner

My 4runner needs a trans. The service light came on and it started slipping like crazy. let it cool down it drove okay. I got the CEL code read and it was for my shift valve E. which is the valve that supplies fluid to the torque convertor at high speeds.

anyways, I found that yota yard has a few. they want $600 for one. which I suppose isnt a terrible price... but would like to keep my options open.

any reccomendations on where else I could source one? would rather already have one that has been pulled.

You could try Oleg at Irbis offroad. Good luck with the search.

I picked up the transmission from oleg on thursday and put it in today. I am almost finished just have some small things to take care of tomorrow at home. This is a shop I used to work at, and my buddy still works at, built in tool boxes, two post air lifts, and an air powered tranny jack. great equipment and makes doing a transmission a breeze...

Didn't have to use my back to lift anything. I am only 20 but trying to prevent any further damage to my back!!

anyways things left to do,

Drill out seized exhaust header bolt
Install new exhaust system ( old one was rusted and this was a great time to do so...)
install interior trim
adjust linkages
install front driveshaft
all the under panels
clear codes(had to drive home with no exhaust due to busted down pipe bolt causing CEL to come on)
and I think thats it?

oh and dissasemble old trans to figure out what went wrong.

Are you returning the old tranny as a core? I need the pan and tranny lines if they're available.

What was laying on the floor in his picture had a torque converter and a dipstick. May be silly but me thinks it's an auto.

tis an auto... Too bad a factory rebuild kit is around $900... otherwise I would do the same...

Kevin- the pan is yours. unfortunately the lines that came with the tranny were all bent up and un useable, so I tossed em and used my old lines. Let me know.

Is the tranny a core? I would be interested in the whole thing as I could use some small parts and misc too.
