Default Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec October 6-8th, 2016

Where: Chama, New Mexico.

When: October 6-8th 2016.

This run was a lot of fun last year. So Dan and I are planning to do it again this year, this time when the aspens are at there peak.

The plan is to chase the train Thursday out of Chama, this time we will be attempting Apache Canyon. This leads to Osier via dirt roads. Don't know how much of the train we will get to see but the hope is to meet the train in Osier for lunch. Friday we will ride the train and Saturday Chase the train again. This time from the Antonito side. Hope to leave a bit earlier in the morning on Saturday, this will allow us to get further towards Antonito on dirt, and thus more time chasing the train, which should be moving a bit slower with more passengers for the fall aspens.

As we get closer, we'll get a group reservation set to ride the train on Friday.

Chama has some of the best aspens i've seen to date.

Awesome Brian! Chama has some great country. And no body down there. The C&TS is a great train to ride.

As Perry said: come one and all!

We can pretty easily accommodate some late arrivals too, as we intend to set up camp (I will go down there early and claim our spot) and base camp out of it. I would be able to post up the location to meet up. With any luck, the FTM-400DR will simply be pumping out the coordinates by then.

VERY stocker friendly (well, maybe not Apache Canyon--Perry and I intend to go check that out in June). And very kid friendly too. Overall it should be a pretty relaxed little trip. I will invite the HDC guys too, if they want to come up from NM. And I will probably try to chase the train also on Sunday, before heading out.

Just a great time all around!

Dan

Bummer Brian!! Was a fun time with you last year (well, other than Ruby getting banged up). Sounds like you have a good trip planned though!!

Default Open to Rising Sun Newbies?

This sounds like a good time. I spent a bit of time in Chama in '10 on an Expedition style trip through Northern NM

Are newbies to the group welcome? I'm sure I'll be a fully fledge member well before this trip ;-)
