Default 2f alternator?

The alternator in the 40 died. None of the auto stores local to me have one. Dealers are saying the part is discontinued. What other options are there? Anyone have one?

Was hoping to wheel the 40 tomorrow.

Back when I had a 40, I had one rebuilt here:

D&D Auto Electric
10920 W. 44th
Wheat Ridge

Not sure if they are still around, but cool old school shop.

Also, would a 2F alternator from an FJ60 work? I'm pretty sure those are still available as I bought one fairly recently.

Tim, if I can get my act together and machine the housing on my new high amp unit, you can have my good working one off my 60. Let me know.

Yep me too.

An FJ60 alternator would be an upgrade Tim.

Do they just bolt on? I am leery now of the external vs. internal regulators, after my 2 day of research here.. I don't want to let the smoke out of anything here when it comes to my 40. Surprised there's such a difference on model years, learned that even my favorite Utah shop doesn't stock them.. they sent me to Napa.

So I ordered one from Napa today... should be in by the end of the week. Was thinking of then taking my 40 one to Vanatta to get rebuilt, then either keep that as a spare or put it back in and let Napa be the spare. Not sure when I can do that though, it's tough to visit a store that's open from 8-4 when you do kids/work/kids from 7-6..

But if a 60 one will drop right in then sure, let's rock it. Also thanks again Mike S. for digging some other options out of storage, but as we discovered the wiring is different, and I don't have a regulator on the firewall, it's bolted to the side.

We may as well look at some pictures...

Please post up how Vanetta goes. That guy is the soup nazi of alternators. Chased me out of the store and told me not to come back. lol. i asked him if he had an adapter to be able to run a factory pulley on an Isuzu alt, and from on line research, such a bushing existed. His stash of crap like that is huuuuge. He motions me away says come back tomorrow when he has time to look. I come back, he's "machined" a bronze bushing by running a drill bit crudely through it and presented me with a $65 bill. I was expecting a $6 bushing! When I questioned, he went nuts.
