Default Tacoma Purchase Advice

Hi All,
Got a friend who's looking at buying a tacoma (hopefully) soon. He's still torn between an early 2000's or one of the newer generation, but either way it will be a quad cab. Any advice or links to threads welcome, but I did have 2 questions:
  1. Does anyone know of a guide like slee has on his website for purchasing cruisers, but for tacomas? Like what to watch out for, things to check, etc?
  2. Any south-siders have a recommendation on a shop/mechanic/dealership that's familiar with tacoma's that could do a pre-purchase inspection? (After spending many thousands of dollars on my cruiser in the first year I have determined I am not sufficient for that task )

I was in the same boat last year before we bought our 2004 Double Cab. I didn't have my mind made up between the 2 styles. I liked the looks and size of the 2001-2004 Tacoma DCabs, but they don't come with a manual trans like the later models. The later models are bigger and have some extra power in addition to the manual trans option. I sacrificed the manual trans for the better looks of the 2001-2004 and the smaller size. I personally don't like the looks of the 2005-2010 and they seemed huge in comparison.

Toy Car Care has been a good shop to me...you might call them about inspections

How far south? Comprehensive at Evans and Washington (near Pearl, west of Broadway) is also good if nearer to south central.

Cool thanks guys. Pretty far south side, so those may work well. Maybe he'll get a 5.7 tundra and can just throw a tow strap out the back for my cruiser to go up i70

TTORA has a decent FAQ for the older (Tacoma 1995.5 - 2004).

http://www.ttora.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Not much of a FAQ the new models, but tons of data in the Late Model forum:
