Default Smog question fj40 2f Denver area...

I failed my smog visual the other day. The emissions passed with flying colors. My 2f runs super nice. The smog guy said it as because I did not have an air injection system. Thankfully a guy here in town helped me out with some parts he had and had some great advice.
Can I just get away with installing just the air pump and the injection rail? I am trying to avoid the EGR business because I have a header. I posted this same question on mud but not much help. Any help would be apreciated!

I didn't think you had to have a visual for pre-81? Must have changed with the new registration BS. Bummer. Maybe try another station?

It's strange..Last year I passed. No changes to the engine at all since last year. The PO did the de-smog (most of it). I would just like to get the minimum equipment to pass.

I would take it to one of the small "mom and pop" test stations. '81 and older you only need a sniffer test (I just double checked on the aircare CO site). The last time I had my 40 done they didn't even open the hood. There used to be a test station at 37th and Federal and I'm sure there are a bunch of other independent places you would have more luck at.

I think the air pump parts should help you pass the visual test. My '76 barely passed a few years ago, and required a bit of carb tuning to do so. My air pump has been removed.

I use the one at 37th and Federal. It doesn't seem to matter what the emissions are, but you must have a smog pump. I don't know if they really checked for the air rail or EGR since my rig always had it. I don't think your smog pump even has to work, but it must turn, and it has to be there. This is on a 77. Post up what you have/don't have when you finally pass. I would like to go with headers some day so I'd like to know how to make that work. Seems like many others have got a pass with headers on...

Bingo I passed! Mom and Pop hooked me up.
Air pump, injection rail, and EGR are required to pass though. If you have headers (on non-cat models), you can weld on an EGR port and I believe you can pass.

So did you have to weld on an EGR port?

Nope. Not today. No EGR yet. I dont think the guy even looked. I am sure its only a matter of time before I have to have every emissions part. Reminds me of the days back in CA having to go to the right place to pass smog. Easier just to have all the stuff than worry about finding it. Especially since its my daily driver and my tags are up at the end of the month.
