Since this thread is titled "confessions" I will admit going over teton pass a few weeks back, when the 80 wouldn't hold speed in 2nd with only 3 people and skis I really wanted a 100. Or an engine swap. Or a SAS swap.

On a related note, I read through the Slee/overland journal article on the 100 sas today, seems I am a few years slow in finding it but a good read! Maybe its just the ACT pics that make me wanna go adventuring.

2000-2002 is the only range I'd stay away from. The potential tranny issues are likely few and far between, although Kipper would personally attest to them.. it was enough to scare me away. But more to the point 98-99 is a real rear locker (not A-trac), and cheaper, leaving more on the table to build it up.. and 2003+ is the 5-speed transmission and whoppin 5 more HP, so worth it if you can afford it. But you also need to like the nav screen interface, compared to the more traditional dash & stock head unit.

For me the choice was get a 2003 and have a car payment and no mods, or get a 99 and a lift front locker and a few other things right off the bat and no payment.. I'm still happy with that decision.

I am interested in your impression wheeling these.

So the 2006/2007 don't come with a locker as an option? So you have to install one and an arb in the front to wheel it?

Man, I just spent like 30 minutes looking at the SAS on that 100. I like it.

Found a 2001 with 98k miles for 15k. If I can negotiate a bit, and see maintenance records, this might be the one.

Going to see it today. From what I can tell on mud the 2000s built in 99 had the issues? Maybe they fixed it after May 2000?

The seller thinks this has the rear diff lock but I don't think they know what they are talking about. Probably only has the center diff lock (I am not really sure what that means or does)

I like A-trac and then if I put in an after market rear locker, I could basically have what the FJ has. Having both Atrac and rear locker is a nice combo.

If I get this and sell the FJ, I can afford a lift, second set of wheels, sliders from that Gucci Land cruiser store in Golden. Maybe skid plates..But that is about all I would be able to do off the bat.Would need to plan for front and rear bumpers.

What is the bolt pattern on the 100 wheels is is 5 or 6?

Melinda wants the proceeds from the potential FJC sale to lighten our financial load. Also have a potential pop-up purchase pending.

This is all part of a major vehicle/pop-up redo around here..

I still want to keep my FJC but hard to justify a 25K rig that really only works for me.

Bolt patern for wheels is 5 on 150mm. Was the 90k service done? if not that will set you back $2,000. And plan for the ARB locker in the front diff to prevent damage to the stock carrier. If it's a trail rig only get in tough with 1LoudLX he has buddy selling a buit 100 for $6500

Thanks Farnham! Guess I will be selling the TRD rims if and when the FJC goes.
