Default AL to Moab 2k11

Just put in my registration today, and looking forward to it!

I'll be wheeling my (currently stock...) Taco for the first time, and will be doing some prep before hand getting the truck ready. A deadline should help me get the lift and tires done with plenty of time to spare. No more putting it off.

Registered for Chicken Corners, Sevenmile Rim, and Fins and Things. Also talked a buddy of mine from Dallas into caravaning along for the ride in his 4runner.

All that said, I know there's the list of stuff on the CM website that is required and recommended. Anything that's not on the list that's a good idea?

There are so many things you can bring along that it can get confusing. There will be others that can tell you what you need, read it all and decide what you need.

Upon watching a bunch of youtube vids, is a 2.5-3" lift on a 2nd gen Tacoma + 285's going to be enough to get around some of the stuff on Fins'n'Things and Seven Mile Rim, or do some of the obstacles have bypasses?

Seems like the area most prone to damage on any relatively stock vehicle is the rocker panels. Even with bigger tires the longer wheelbase makes them vulnerable. Removing stock running boards (if you have them) and installing a good heavy set of sliders is usually a good idea.

A winch is always nice to have but not mandatory except on some of the higher rated trails. A high lift jack is a good thing to have too.

Agreed on the sliders. Tacomas have a long wheel base, so I'd make rocker protection a top priority.

You WILL scrape your rear bumper on some of those runs for sure. It all depends on your line, spotter and right foot. A skilled driver can can do those with no to very minimal damage.

^ Yea, that's true as well. If you have a hitch installed, it will protect you on most ledges.

Good point, get a straight hitch and it will help. Just be careful when you make turns going down ledges.
