Default HID lighting

I installed HID lights today. (for off road use only) Really easy, really, really easy. I ordered bulbs, wire harness, ballasts and mounting brackets from DDM tuning. 9006 bulb replacements 35w, 5000k. $65 and about 2 hours to install. It was all plug and play. Ballasts draw off battery and a relay is used to trigger the balasts. To go back to factory all I would have to do is change bulbs and plug the factory clips back in. Pretty slick. The bulbs replace the factory low beam headlights. Leaving the high beams factory. General concensus on MUD is the 100 refractors are a good enough shape to have a reasonable light cut off without excessive glare. Doesn't look too blue/ricer to me so far. I'll snap a couple pics tonight.

Thats cool. I added them to my 100 as well and the 100 actually had mounting flanges for HID ballasts on the bottom of the headlamp housing. The light cutoff was pretty good although a few beams of light straggle off here and there.

Nope. Just a bulb install. patern is pretty good. Nobody has flashed me. They look how you would imagine a Sylvania or one of those "super bright lightbulbs" to look. It is easier to look at than most cars with factory HID.

I got the raptor kit. I believe factory wireing can handle the 35w. But I added a harness to pull directly from the battery to be safe.

I bought Gary's old set from his Dodge and he installed them for me. They are great, I always want more light when driving along Chatfield on Wadsworth. The ones that Gary installed in my truck have the high/low beam and work great. No flashing either.

Best upgrade and first I try to do is extra lights.

I've run the DDM kit on my 2000 4runner. Not real happy with them. I usually have to cycle the switch on an off and then on a few times to get them to ignite the bulbs. Once lit they are fine, but I hate not having 100% trust in my headlights.

Did you use the extra $12 harness or just the factory wireing? The MUD 100 crowd have had success running the 35w without the harness. People running 55w have reported needing the harness. I opted for overkill and extra protection and got the harness with the 35w kit. It adds a fuse and a relay and pulls straight off the battery. The high beams and running lights are independent of the HID. I carry stock bulbs and could reinstall them in a matter of minutes.
