Default Snow Run report

Well somebody had to start it. Personally Sharon and I had a great time even without a top

We took off in the lead group with Ige leading for a while when she let me pass, that was a big mistake I lead our group a different way to the top than the others took getting to the top of Yankee Hill pretty fast.

We ended up with only three rigs in our group, Steve and Michelle in their 40 and Randy and Dee in the Mule. Once we tried to conquer Yankee hill Steve found that his ARB lockers weren't working. A quick trail site repair and we conquered the hill.

Snow was soft in the trees and hard crust on top. Being in Jeremy's buggy I was pretty light and was able to stay on the crust for most of the way. Randy was able to follow my tracks and make it too, Steve wasn't so lucky he broke trough and had to fight his way up.

We only have a few pics to share so here we go ;

Sharon took all the pics one of the few times we were stopped so I apologize to Randy and Steve for the lack of pics. These were taken right before going to the top, you can see that my tire was buried pretty well and those are 42" tires. BTW Jeremy your winch line needs to be replaced it is very brittle and old.

Default 2010 Snow and Pizza Run

We had a good run. About 30 rigs. Light snow and ice for the first half or so of the trail. Then big old snow to deal with up high. We had some problems keeping the main group together and making all the correct turns in the beginning. Many ended up making wrong turns and getting off track. Everyone must remember to keep the person in sight behind them.

The first group made good progress and had a lot of fun opening up the trail. We all eventually made it up the the north and south spurs at timberline. A lot of winching and strapping was required to get there which was fun. At timberline very deep old snow was encountered. Tom R. and some from the front group made it all the way through the north spur and to the top of Yankee Hill proper. Many of us tried to make through the south spur and were denied. Steve B. and Chris D. make heroic attempts at full speed. This is the same spot we all worked on for a long time last year and succeeded getting through. We all eventually turned around and made it down and out as planned.

Ige had a problem with a leaking tire bead. Gary C. sheared something pulling someone out and made it back in 3wd. But I believe that was about the only damage.

TreeRoot, Ige and a few other stayed late and tried to make it through the south spur. They missed out on our pizza but were successful I believe. I let her tell that story. Pics later.

Here is my summary of the trip. Wish there was better software to do
this but I don't know what to use at this point. Load the yankee hill
track and switch back and forth between google earth and the jpg and
you can see where we were.

Great turnout this year. The damage on the 'night run' crew ended up being:
  • One power steering pump on John's FZJ80
  • All the hub studs on Gary's truck, a tooth, and a strap
  • Three beads on Ige's FZJ80 (ice between the rim and tire) and a spun winch rope.
  • One light bar and winch on my truck

We stayed back to make sure everyone got out, decided to make one last run on the hill, and got stuck to the point our winches couldn't pull us out. It took some time but we made it out. Thank you Kevin for reminding me to grab a torch the last time out.

My wife Christie and I had a great trip and road along with John "SnowRun" Red FZJ80. Great group of people and overall a great day weather wise. We were with the night crew trying to conquer Yankee Hill and had a blast playing in the snow. We did end up at Crook's Palace and did have some Pizza and beer (Great pizza BTW)
