Default power steering return line goes boom

so went to the movies came out and had no steering in my truck, thought just needed to warm up being that its -20 out on fri nite, well good thing i live a mile from the theater as my return line from gear box to cooler was puking out, so i changed it out sat morn and all is good now, heres my tip couldnt get the new line on very easy and didnt want to press to hard and break the metal line so i boiled the hose for 5 min and it went right on. used a generic 3/8 power line worked fine and was only 6 bux for 2 feet

You can buy the 'fuel injection' rated 3/8" fuel line, which is a bit more expensive, but a bit more stout than just the el-cheapo fuel line. I have used it for several return PS hoses on FJ40 conversions. It seems to hold up fine for many years.

I have seen this on multiple 80s now so if you haven't swapped it as preventative maintenance yet, you may want to. The Cruiser part is discontinued but the Previa is a close match and rated for ATF. I ordered part number 44412-28160 from Toyota, approximately $25. The web also says the line is 10mm not 3/8" but I don't know if that makes any difference.

Here are pics of the hole in mine and the others I have seen broke in the same spot.
