When I bought my first FJ40 the guys at the used car lot where I bought it wanted to sell me a Commando like that, same colors even. I test drove it and it felt really sloppy. I drove the FJ40 and it felt tight and heavy, like a tank. Glad I got the FJ40 instead. That was in 1982.

It's important to have faith in your equipment, however some people ask a little too much!

I think that guy was worried his bumper mounted come-a-long was too big, and flashy...and decided to downgrade to the winch.

It's also possible that this is his beater Jeep and the fella needs to move a bunch of downed trees from his land or something. It was parked at the airport and a lot of people don't like leaving their nice cars for fear of theft or falling aircraft landing gear.

I had that same winch on my Scout. It was for raising the snow plow.. gravity was used for lowering it. I'm guessing the Jeep sees similar duty in the winter, and that angle piece is most likely to that end as well.

Still kind of a funny pic though, it would be even better to see that Jeep up on a forest road.
