Default emissions help

Ok i know its not a cruiser but need help getting a test done. Weld county changed there rules. It may not be feasable but thought i would throw it out there. Does anyone know anyone.... a friend of a friend that would run emissions on my Jeep? I know if it is tested as a 81 Jeep i will be fine. But the motor swap has made this a headache for me. Two options right now are let it sit for 6 years and tag it then. Or sell. Anyone? thanks in advance...

The 25 and older rules have been retired so the days of waiting until your rig was old enough are no more. They made a hard cutoff at 1975.

http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/foru...highlight=1975

Effective: September 1, 2009:

Vehicles 1975 or older can apply for collectors plates at DMV
One (1) Tail-pipe emissions test is not required
Registration is done every 5 years
If ownership changes: emissions test is not required if new owner applies for collectors plates at DMV
But if new owner applies for regular plates, emissions test & registration is required every year.

"Grandfathered" Collector Vehicles:
1976 to 1984 vehicles registered as collector vehicles before September 1 2009 If owner does not register vehicle before end of grace period, collector plates are no longer valid; therefore, owner must get the appropriate emissions test and will receive regular plates

If ownership changes:
Vehicle cannot be automatically registered as collector vehicle; must comply with emissions standards.
1984 to 1982 dyne test - 1981 & older tail-pipe test - 1975 & older no test (see above definition)

If the motor is newer than the vehicle you are in better shape than the original motor. They should be performing the test based on the factory specs of an 81.

Mines a 70 with a motor from a 92 and it passed just fine, no cats required in 1970.

Good luck.

my issue is they raise the hood and see the 5.0 and say i need a piece of paper that tell Jr. what buttons to push on the puter. I know it will pass for a 81 but the motor is a 89 merc with stang parts on top and they want to test it as a stang. dont have room for all that stuff under there. tis why i was asking if i try another station will they run it as a 81?

you'll have to go to an aircare place and have the state official look at it. He'll give you a form that states what it should be tested as. it was not too painless for me. The guy i went to knew his stuff..

All the emissions devices need to be on the motor as it was when it was new. depending on the person they can be nice or not nice about it.

BTW they tested my truck as an 85' this year, not a 2003 like the motor is. It took a little talking though.

Thanks Marco, looking like one less jeep in the stable. Already went down that road. I have never had luck sweet talking anyone. must be the slanted eyes. The PO just took it there and they ran it as a 81. That was a while back also and in Denver. Now since its a new law in our county they are being pretty stingy. Brand new testing station and when i was told to wait in a room i new i was in trouble. So that brings up the other issue. if they test as a 89 i need smaller tires. I miss the measurment by a half inch. max on the dyno is 34 inches. I tried to get Rec tags but needs emissions also. guess its a omen. get my other one done. A little less wheeling for us this year. May not have a job so may work out. Thanks gang.

Sounds like the "new" folks at the new station aren't really up on the rules...

You could always buy a place somewhere that doesn't require emissions testing and register the rig there - But the no job part might put a crimp in that plan
