Thanks for posting the link Matt.

There is still much more info we need to acquire about this issue. I missed the Forestry Service meeting on Tuesday due to a work conflict, but other members attended. The conflict seems to be with the state rather than the FS on the access. In the worst case scenario, we will permanently lose the trail, which is totally not acceptable. One option is that we may need to find another route that bypasses this particular road and that bypass will actually be on FS land rather than state owned land. The FS seems to be open to that proposal, but only time will tell. We are getting the newest maps of the area tomorrow and will request some coordinates that we can use to step across, flag and let the FS decide upon our proposed route.

Bob, let us know how we can help. We have a big group of guys that we can mobilize when and where needed. We also have a history of putting our money into the game when needed.

Thanks Matt,

I am going to meet with the Prez of the club tomorrow and look at the newest map he now has in hand. I will get more details so everyone knows what is going on. I will get back here with the names, email addresses and phone number of all involved.

Also posted up on Colorado4x4.org for extra exposure.
"Bad News regarding our favorite Adopted Trail" is the thread.

Glad to hear of all the support.

Thanks!

As I recall, the exit out of Crystal Mountain has also been a point of contention with the private land owners along that road, the gate falsely marked as private, etc. Likely that will work against us if those folks can organize and help push the case for closure.

Hey everyone,

I am pretty busy with other personal things, so I have not been as involved as I was initially. Gov't lays off contractors first when in a pinch.

The fire missed Moody Hill, so that trail is still good. The starting point of the Crystal fire was quite a ways east of the Crystal Mountain trail. They initially closed access to Crystal mountain road Sat/Sun (The road that takes you back out to Buckhorn 44H) because it was the only way in and out for the people that live on the western portion of where the fire was. Buckhorn road, that comes up from Masonville, was closed to local traffic for most of the week at Masonville and at Rist Canyon to the north. Check out the link for more info.

Crystal Mountain trail is still in a snafu state. We are trying to contact the lesees, but do not expect any decent response. 1/2 of them are probably ok with allowing public access through the area and the other 1/2 are definitely not. The lease states No public access AFAIK. The FS is not happy at all about it because they will need to unlock a new gate to get to their land and in order for the lesees to get back there, they will need to cross FS land, so we actually have three parties butting heads, with the FS basically on our side. I think the best thing to do may be to head up the chain of command of the Colorado Land Board. We are checking out some of the documents on BRC and would welcome any other tips from RS, since you folks have probably dealt with this extensively. I am definitely not experienced with this stuff.
