Default Bear in Littleton

I just saw a baby brown bear in Progress Park. Not something I ever thought I would see around here.

you didn't know that at lower elevations black bears turn brown?

same as how deer turn into elk at higher elevations...

I think his point is that a real "brown bear" is only slightly smaller than a grizzly. What you saw is probably a black bear cub that was brown in color.

I'm no biologist but are not brown bears and grizzlies nearly the same thing and what is primarily the difference is the diet of fish on the coastal regions, with brown bears actually much larger than the grizzly?

The internets say that is correct! Very interesting, I never knew the difference between grizzlies and browns.

On a related note, how about a bear joke?

How do you tell the difference between a brown bear and a black bear?
Climb a tree: if it follows you up its a black bear, if it knocks the tree down its a brown bear.
